Student Project - Forest Keeper

Forest Keeper is a building/strategy game about planting a forest to create a habitat for animals and managing it. The main resource in the game is money, which can be used to buy tree seedlings. Trees take a long time to grow and can be cut down to generate money. To win, you need to increase the air quality in your forest (see image below).

Once you have created a small forest, the animals slowly return. These must then also be managed (hunted), otherwise they will eat the young trees and plants. A balance must be struck between the size of the forest and the number of animals. Sometimes events will trigger, they can force the player to make decisions. (e.g. forest fire, bark beetle).

You start with your Hunting Lodge in the middle of the forest and will be able to expand and place different kinds of buildings. For example, you can place a beehive, witch then will yield honey every couple of days. When you see the honey oozing out of the hive, it is time to recruit a Beekeeper to harvest it.

The aim is to achieve a certain carbon footprint with the forest, e.g. to process 100 tonnes of Co2 and at the same time to have a profitable forestry.

Pro Tips:

• If you read the Tooltip descriptions of the various trees, you can see, that they increase Air Quality in different seasons. The beech only increases it in spring and summer, pine in summer and autumn and spruce in autumn and winter. If you use the system correctly, you will be able to make money fast because you can cut down the trees, that don’t influence air quality in the current season.

• The number of animals will increase if you: plant more trees, build more feeders or bushes. Once you constructed raised stand, you will be able to hire hunters. This will open an additional panel in the personnel menu where you can see the number of animals in your forest and hunt them.

• Place all your beehives on the same day! As hired workers only are around for one day, you will want to collect them all together.
